Candid Photography in Morning

Streets are alive, living, breathing beings – more so than any of us. It has it own set of emotions and moods, and an appreciable ability to support life. Like us humans, the street, is living its time. It wakes up before us each morning, and does its job through out the day before retiring for a short break in the night.

Today we will see what morning has to offer. When it wakes-up early in the morning, it is very fresh and energetic, to support all morning walkers and joggers.

As the horizon turns golden orange by the rising sun, road sides start showing their vivid colors. Birds get ready to look for their food.

Small hawkers starts their preparations to put-up Mandi (bazar), Subjiwals (vegetable) starts shorting produces, and many others get ready to start their day. The street, like every other day, promises a daily wage and hope for a better tomorrow.

For many, the day hasn’t official started until their first dose of chai. Street’s very first offering is through its chaiwalas (tea vendors).

The day progresses, and the street adapts. However, a late morning is no reason for some of its patrons to wake up. The few nap away, day dreaming, while others are oblivious to their busy surroundings.

Care-freeness shown while reading the newspaper, it’s ironic - care more about the world and not a worry in the worry. A life long habit.

“Work is worship,” said Gandhiji. For most people on the street, days break means a new opportunity to earn their daily wages. Its compulsion driven to feed their families, educate their children and “live.” No works is less important, and no worker is too small.

Even God is waiting for someone to pray while, Mail (flower vendor) is ready with earn his living by selling garlands and Pooja Samagri.

As the day moves along, the street is wide awake. The last ones to enter the race are the school children. Nostalgia is sure to kick in, when you see an autorickshaw nearly busting with little school children. It’s a miracle that the three wheeler can even begin to move.

You must have guessed, that I am an early riser and morning walker. My favorite part of the day is dawn. I finding nothing more beautiful then being witness to the awesome show that the morning puts up. To freeze those moments that I am present in, I am sure to carry a smartphone or a handy digital camera. Accuracy and technicality is not the primary focus of Candid Street, we want to capture emotions, action, and feelings of people on the street. To understand the people in their most basic form, and simplest of environment is our goal. There is no setup, no props, no retakes – just natural human behavior.

I combine passion of photography with morning fitness. I bike around the city looking for photography inspiration, and the end, there is always a fresh, hot cup of chai waiting – that’s my cue to start the day.
