Rath Yatra in Vadodara

Rath Yatra is one of the most important ritual festivals of India. Mainly it is observed in Jagannath Puri in Odisa state.

Rath-yatra is derived from two Sanskrit words, Rath which means chariot or carriage, and Yatra which means journey or pilgrimage.

In Jagannath Puri (Odisa) Triads are usually worshiped in the sanctum of the temple at Puri, but once during the month of Asadha (Rainy Season of Odisha, usually falling in month of June or July), they are brought out onto the Bada Danda (main street of Puri) and travel (3 km) to the Shri Gundicha Temple, in huge chariots (Rath), allowing the public to have Darśana (Holy view).

In many cities of India Rath Yatra is performed with lots of fan-fair and devotions. Vadodara is also one of those festival loving cities where Rath Yatra is organized by ISCON temple.

There are many stories about Rath Yatra and its origin which you can find online. The idea is not advocating any here but trying to show you some of the festive moods of Vadodara during Rath Yatra and capture the enthusiasm of devotees and the eagerness to have Darshan of Krishna, Balaram and Subhadra.

The Love for Hindu Culture is still alive.
